The bi-annual IAFEP conferences provide an international forum for the presentation and debate of current research and scholarship on the economics of participation. The major themes of the 1998 conference will be:
 
 

Employee ownership and the transition to a market economy.

Employee participation in transnational corporations

  The stakeholder economy: participation, trust and social inclusion
 
 

Presentations in the following areas are welcome :

Call for papers

Submissions are invited from all relevant fields of study including industrial economics, comparative economic systems, organisational studies, management studies, economic sociology, institutional economics, evolutionary economics, development economics, and studies of economies in transition.
 
 

Abstract submission deadline

The deadline for the receipt of proposals for papers to be presented at the conference in the form of an abstract of up to 400 words is 15th April 1998. Abstracts of up to 300 words should include full details of institutional affiliation and a mailing address. The conference organisers will arrange for the reproduction of 30 copies of each paper, which should be up to 8,000 words in length, and submitted by 26th May.

Conference location

Bristol is a major cultural and economic centre for Southwest England, situated close to the historic town of Bath, one hundred miles west of London. There are good rail and road links from London and Heathrow airport, while Bristol airport connects directly with several major European cities including Paris and Amsterdam. The conference will be held at Clifton Hill House, a conference centre for Bristol University. Clifton Hill House is an imposing semi-rural mansion built in 1747 by the Bristol merchant and shipowner Paul Fisher, and is situated in the heart of Bristol close to the University.
 
 

Conference fee

The full conference fee is GBP 240. This includes three nights accommodation at Clifton Hill House from 25th-27th June, and all meals. The fee also includes membership of IAFEP for one year and a free subscription to the Association's journal "Economic Analysis: Journal of Enterprise and Participation", a copy of the book of abstracts of all papers presented at the conference, reproduction of 30 copies of each paper, and participation at the conference dinner.
 
 

Accommodation is in single rooms. For those requiring double rooms or hotel facilities, accommodation can be arranged in local hotels on a payment of the appropriate supplement. A limited number of bursaries of GBP 120 each are available for participants on low incomes who lack institutional backing to attend the conference. Participants from eastern Europe, low income countries and post-graduate students will be favoured in allocation of the bursaries.

Registrations will be confirmed once payment has been received. If you are applying for a bursary please support your application with a letter confirming your status.

CONFERENCE FEE

LOCATION

Bristol is a major cultural and economic centre for Southwest England, situated close to the historic town of Bath, one hundred miles west of London. There are good rail and road links from London and Heathrow airport, while Bristol airport connects directly with several major European cities including Paris and Amsterdam. The conference will be held at Clifton Hill House, a conference centre for Bristol University. Clifton Hill House is an imposing semi-rural mansion built in 1747 by the Bristol merchant and shipowner Paul Fisher, and is situated in the heart of Bristol close to the University. Accommodation is in single rooms. For those requiring double rooms or hotel facilities, accommodation can be arranged in local hotels on a payment of the appropriate supplement.

ECONOMIC ANALYSIS: JOURNAL OF ENTERPRISE AND PARTICIPATION

The first issue of the new journal of the Association Economic Analysis: Journal of Enterprise and Participation will be published by Carfax publishing company in 1998. Members of IAFEP receive a free one year subscription to the journal upon payment of the membership fee of £25, which should be sent to Will Bartlett, School for Policy Studies at the address above, and made payable to IAFEP.

Prague Conference


Below is the announcement for the conference recently held in Prague.

The council of the International Association for the Economics of Participation (IAFEP) would like to invite you to the 8th Conference of IAFEP which will be held in Pyramida Hotel, Prague (Czech Republic), on August 22-24, 1996.

The conferences major theme will be Economic Participation and the Transition. Presentations in all areas of workers participation, self-management, and economic and industrial democracy are welcome (economic theory, empirical evidence, institutional and historical studies, experience in eastern and central Europe, developed and developing countries). We welcome topics that range from the theoretical to practical applications.

Although historically most who attend the conference are economists, we welcome geographers, sociologists, planners, labor leaders, etc. Sessions running in parallel will include theory, empirical studies, institutional and historical studies, and workshops for practioners and case studies.

As at our last conference in Slovenia in June 1994, a graduated registration fee will be used (with a maximum of $225, in order to subsidize in part expenses of colleagues from low-income countries and students). A full conference fee for members with over $40,000 in income is a) $175 per person or b) $225 per person in the case of institutional or grant support. A reduced conference fee for members with an income between $15,000 and $40,000 in income is a) $95 per person or b) $155 per person in the case of institutional or grant support. The minimum conference fee for members with incomes below $15,000 is a) $30 per person or b) $50 per person in the case of institutional or grant support.
