Why attend
The bi-annual IAFEP conferences provide an international forum for the presentation and debate of current research and scholarship on the economics of participation.  The major themes of the 2000 conference will be:

• Innovative forms of participation
• Participation in the age of e-commerce
• Employee participation and the management of change
• Finance and employee ownership
• Employee ownership and economic transition
• Participation and reconstruction in South East Europe
• Inter-firm cooperation and business alliances
• Participation, trust and social inclusion
• Mutuality, social enterprise and participation

 Presentations dealing with the following topics are also welcome :

• worker participation
• self-management
• employee ownership
• economic and industrial democracy
• labour-managed firms
• co-operatives
• profit sharing
• social enterprises in welfare services

Call for papers
Submissions are invited from all relevant fields of study including industrial economics, comparative economic systems, organisational studies, management studies, economic sociology, institutional economics, evolutionary economics, development economics, and studies of economies in transition.

Abstract submission deadline
Abstracts of up to 300 words should include full details of institutional affiliation, mailing address plus, possibly, a  short list of  keywords.  The deadline for the receipt of proposals for papers to be presented at the conference in the form of an abstract of up to 300 words is 15th February 2000.  Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their paper by 15th March 2000.  Final papers plus extended abstracts should be submitted to the organisers by 10th June 2000.  The conference organisers will arrange for the reproduction of 30 copies of each paper, which should be up to 8,000 words in length, and submitted by 26th May.

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ECONOMICS OF PARTICIPATION (IAFEP)

The International Association for the Economics of Participation (IAFEP), was established at Portoroz, Slovenia in 1994. Formerly the International Association for the Economics of Workers’ Management, the academic activity of the new association reflects and analyses the widening scope and importance of employee participation, employee ownership, and alternative and non-hierarchical forms of business organisation in the emerging global economy.

IAFEP also holds a biannual conference. The last conference was held at the University of Bristol, UK, from 26th-28th June 1998. The next conference will be held at the University of Trento, Italy on 6th-8th July 2000.

Why Join?
Membership of the Association is open to all those who wish to participate in the Association activities, and who have an interest in the themes of employee participation in the widest sense, employee ownership, co-operatives, labour-managed firms, codetermination, profit-sharing, workers’ councils, non profit and voluntary sector organisations and economic and business networks, as well as studies covering the topics of trust, altruism and collaboration in economic life.

Membership fee and registration
Membership of the Association costs GBP 30. Delegates who register for the IAFEP conference in Arco (Trento) in July 2000 will receive complimentary membership. The Conference fee (inclusive of accommodation) is expected around 390€ (about 250GBP/450US$).
